Here’s a video I worked on with the basic instructions on how to remove and object from a photo using Adobe Photoshop

Why is this useful?

Well, let’s say that someone took your photo at a con and someone left a backpack behind you, the photo is perfect is just that the backpack it’s ruing it, what you can do is remove the backpack from the photo so you can share that beautiful photo with your fans. Then again, if you are simply interested on learning how to remove the object from an specific photo for your designs then this is the perfect place to do that.

Method #1

This first method only works for photos where the object that differs from the actual background, in other words, it’s easy to select the object with the Quick Selection Tool.

For example:

Let’s say that you’ll like to remove the ping pong racket from the photo. If you’ll like to follow along with this same written tutorial you can click on the image above and save it on your computer.

  1. Open Adobe Photoshop on your computer.
  2. Go to File > Open and locate the photo you want to work with
    • If the background and the object that you’re trying to remove is solid you could use the Magic Wand to select the object.

Method #2

This second method requires some of your patience; however, I honestly prefer this method because it’s more precise. On this method we’ll use the pen Red Lilly Cosplay - Tutorials - Remove object from Photoshop

  1. Locate the image you want to work on on your computer, alternatively you can download the photo I use on my video as an example at https://goo.gl/sWm23y
  2. Open Adobe Photoshop on your computer.
  3. Select the pen tool from the toolbar.
  4. Once is selected this is the part where we need patience since we’ll select the entire object by adding points all around it, it may take you some time to get use to this tool but it’s super useful. To start your path you need to click to mark your start point.
  5. Follow by clicking on your second point (make sure not go to to far otherwise the pen will not make the proper curve line to select the object) and without letting go the left click on your mouse drag the pen until you make the curve line as follows:

  6. This way we’re assuring that we’re selecting every detail on the object, once is selected you’ll notice a black path all over the object.
